Issue tracking is the term commonly used to cover tools which help to track and manage software issues (bugs, improvement and feature requests, ...)
Other terms commonly used are bug tracking or defect tracking, but in a sense issue tracking is more general than only bug or defect tracking.
Issue tracking?
Open Source?
XooSent is provided free of charge for any kind of use under the very permissive Apache Software License. Feel free to use and modify it for your own needs under the terms of this license.
But XooSent is not only open source, it is also opened to community development. You can easily get involved by registering to the mailing lists, submitting issues or patches.
Why yet another Issue Tracking software?
There are already numerous issue tracking system available, so why create yet another one?
The short answer is that XooSent has been first developed for practice purpose: practice some technologies for a real world application.
As a longer answer it's pretty difficult to find java based open source issue tracking system. We have looked at Scarab and JTrac but were not really satisfied with what we found.
But if you're looking for a ready to use issue tracking system, XooSent is still far from being mature enough to provide features very common in all issue tracking systems...
For the moment XooSent can be interesting if you look for an issue tracking system to which you can pretty easily contribute, or if you simply want to see how you can easily develop data centric application with the excellent combination of Wicket, DataBinder, Hibernate, Derby and Jetty!
Why XooSent?
XooSent is the contraction of Xoo Sentinel.
Xoo is the prefix used by XooCode.org projects.
sen·ti·nel (snt-nl)
n. One that keeps guard; a sentry.
XooSent is developed to keep guard of the bugs and issues in your sofware.
